Trostle Farm Tree Clearing Part 2



A number of trees have been cleared by National Park Service contractors in the area adjacent to the Trostle House. This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.

In our post on Friday, we showed you this area at the Trostle Farm before the tree removal project began. Today we’ll show you a few shots of what has been cleared.

The clearing in this area has revealed the utility pole and lines previously hidden by the woods. This view was taken facing south at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.



Looking back at the Trostle property. The 9th Massachusetts battery monument is just visible in the center portion of this shot. This view was taken facing north at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.



The lines here bring power to the John Weikert Farm, labeled in the right-hand portion of our Little Round Top panorama. This is one of the few aerial utility poles/lines left on the battlefield proper. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.


The tallest tree in the left portion of this shot was marked with a pink “Do Not Cut” tag, and it now stands out quite nicely against the rest of the landscape. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.



After we walked back to our vehicle and drove down US Avenue, we noticed tree cutting had occurred in this area as well. We are standing 200 yards to the east of the tree cutting near the Trostle House. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.



This has opened up the viewshed to Little Round Top from this portion of this field. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010.
