The National Park Service’s attempt to restore the Gettysburg Battlefield closer to what it looked like in 1863 continues with tree cutting near the monument to the 19th Indiana Infantry Regiment near McPherson’s Woods.
The monument to the 19th Indiana is located east of Meredith Avenue. The tree cutting is on the high ground behind the monument, which is the slope of McPherson’s Ridge. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 2:45 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2011.
While most of the tree cutting is occuring on the high ground during the winter months, it appears that there has been some tree thinning in the low ground behind the monument. This view was taken facing southwest at approximately 2:45 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

It appears that the heavy equipment has really sunk into the ground as it moves from the top of East McPherson’s Ridge to this location. The monument to the 151st Pennsylvania Infantry is in the left background. Also visible is the white steeple to the Seminary Chapel (1942) at the Lutheran Theological Seminary.
