When we originally visited the Klingel House back in 2009 (see previous posts section above), there was board-and-batten siding on the structure and an 1874 addition still present on the rear of the house. For our last visit in November of 2010, there was still work to be completed on the project, so we thought it would be nice to show you the completed work done by the National Park Service. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 helped to fund a few projects in the park, one of which provided $344,880 for rehabilitation of the Klingel House and reverting the structure to its 1863 appearance. You will notice that the board-and-batten siding is gone and the original logs have been exposed and painted white. This view was facing southeast at approximately 4:15 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

The Klingel House was occupied by tenant farmers until 2008, when the last tenant died.This view was taken facing west at approximately 4:15 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

In 2009 and 2010 archaeological investigations were contracted and completed and unearthed a number of artifacts. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 4:15 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

Many of the artifacts predated the 1874 addition and included “coarse red earthenware (storage type vessels), large bowls and numerous fragments of teacups, saucers and plates.” This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 4:15 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
