Taneytown Road Battlefield Rehabilitation



Along the west side of the Taneytown Road, near the site of the Michael Frey House and Artillery Ridge Campground, the National Park Service is cutting down 15 and a half acres of non-historic vegetation to open the view that soldiers would have had in 1863. This view was taken from the southeast facing northwest at approximately 7:30 AM on Friday, July 18, 2008.

The National Park Service at Gettysburg National Military Park is cutting down non-historic vegetation to rehabilitate the battlefield along the Taneytown Road. The location is near the Artillery Ridge Campground, and the site of the Michael Frey Farm. An area of approximately 15 and a half acres is being restored so that visitors can appreciate the view of Cemetery Ridge from the Taneytown Road, and understand its importance during the battle.
