Snow Closes Some Battlefield Avenues

Winds gusts were measured up to 30 MPH this afternoon. The snow was blowing against our car’s window while we sat along the eastern arm of McPherson’s Ridge.The McPherson Barn and the Buford equestrian monument are visible. By morning snow had stopped accumulating on the roadways.We’re looking at the monuments to Lysander Cutler’s brigade along North Reynold’s Avenue with the Eternal Light Peace Memorial on Oak Hill taking up the left background.This view was taken facing northeast at approximately 2:30 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

According to the National Weather Service, Gettysburg received 8 inches of snowfall last night.The Lutheran Theological Seminary buildings can be seen along Seminary Ridge. Major avenues open on the battlefield today included West Confederate, Wheatfield Road, and Hancock. Access to the Wheatfield via Ayres Avenue was closed.
