This nativity scene is present each year in Gettysburg, but for the last 20 or so has been located here just down from the square on York Street. Recently, an article was ran in the Evening Sun that detailed a businesswoman’s efforts to get a nativity scene placed back on the town square. The wreaths decorating downtown only go so far (approximately one block in any direction from the square), stopping here at the Lincoln Diner, near the Gettysburg Railroad Station, which already has “Gettysburg 150th” signs hanging from its front windows and doors. After walking down Chambersburg Street a bit, we decided to head north up Baltimore Street … This view was taken at approximately 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2011.

… which does not make for many great pictures. Many of the buildings along Baltimore Street, before intersecting Steinwehr Avenue, are offices and residences, and the few storefronts provide little lighting. The Tille Pierce House, along with the Schriver House (one door down), were the easiest buildings to see on this portion of the street after the sun went down. Part of the request of those involved in the Steinwehr Avenue improvements, is that as Steinwehr Avenue reaches the battlefield there is very little lighting and no benches, causing tourists to not walk down towards those businesses. We’ll take a look at Steinwehr Avenue at night at a later time.
