Peace Light: Some Photographs Taken when the Vandalism was First Discovered

The Peace Light vandalism was first discovered by an “off duty” Licensed Battlefield guide and his friend as they were touring the battlefield on the afternoon of Thursday, January 8, 2009. They were the first to report the vandalism (at least the National Park Service didn’t know about it when they reported it). They also took a couple of pictures of the spray painting, and have now shared them with us. Currently, the National Park Service has boards over the spray paint as we showed you on our post for January 10, 2009.

The vandals also spray painted the wayside exhibit on Oak Ridge, just south of the Oak Ridge Tower. This view was taken facing east on Friday, January 9, 2009.

Here is a view of the Oak Ridge wayside a couple of months before it was spray painted. This view was taken facing east by Craig Swain of the Historical Marker Database on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
