North Stratton Street is closed from Water Street, shown running left to right in this photograph southward to Race Horse Alley. The bridge over Stevens Run at this location is being replaced. Replacement of the North Stratton Street Bridge in the Borough of Gettysburg began on June 2nd. The bridge, which spans Stevens Run, is not only being replaced, it is being widened approximately six feet. The work will take until the end of July. While drivers are inconvenienced by the detours they must now make to avoid the bridge, not all Stratton Street residents are upset. One North Stratton Street resident told the Gettysburg Daily that he hopes the work on the bridge takes three years. He’s never heard it so quiet on Stratton Street since all the cars, trucks, and buses have been diverted to other locations.
The initial work, at least, is being performed by employees of the Borough of Gettysburg, not the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. This view was taken from the northwest facing southeast at approximately 7:15 AM on Tuesday, June 17, 2008.
