Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Bellamy is the host for our series on Cutler’s Brigade of the United States’ Army of the Potomac.
In our first Cutler’s Brigade post Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Bellamy provided background on division commander Brigadier General James Wadsworth, the 104th New York Infantry Regiment, and the brigade commander, Brigadier General Lysander Cutler.
In the second Cutler’s Brigade post Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Bellamy discussed three regiments in Cutler’s Brigade, the 76th, 84th, and 147th New York Infantry regiments.

In Video #11 (Videos #1-#10 were shown in our previous Cutler’s Brigade post) Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide Rich Bellamy is standing in the graveyard of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He shows the location of the headquarters of Major General Oliver O. Howard during the Gettysburg Campaign, and discusses the position of the 7th Indiana Infantry Regiment at Emmitsburg on July 1, 1863. The main street he is describing in this video is now known as North Seton Avenue. At the time of the battle, it was known as the Gettysburg Road. The Saint Vincent’s House (Saint Joseph’s Rectory) was constructed from 1852-1853 at a cost of $4500. The street in the foreground, running from left to right (west to east) is now called DePaul Street. It was previously known as Green Street and Church Street. This view was taken facing north at approximately 6:00 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2010.
This structure was possibly one of three buildings from which Major General John F. Reynolds directed operations when he was in the Emmitsburg area. This view was taken facing northwest at approximately 6:00 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2010.
The St. Joseph’s Church was greatly expanded in 1842. The present steeple was completed in 1868. This view was taken facing west at approximately 6:07 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2010.
The St. Joseph’s Church is of Italian Renaissance style and measures approximately one hundred feet long by fifty feet wide and forty-five feet high. It was designed and built by John Teen of Frederick and cost approximately $5,500. This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 6:00 AM on Saturday, May 15, 2010.
