It was obviously constructed to provide access to the markers and plaques to Lieutenant-Colonel Hilary Pollard Jones’ Artillery Battalion of the Confederate Second Corps. There were five vacant artillery gun spots in 2008, when we last visited Jones’ Battalion. Three of them have had guns returned, but this is one of two positions which have not had artillery on the field for quite some time.
