The Civil War Trust is steadily working on tearing down a structure that they purchased on East Cemetery Hill’s Hillcrest Place – today we’ll check in with LBG Garry Adelman to update us on the progress. The flank markers to the 107th Ohio and to the 25th Ohio are shown at the position when they were attacked here on the evening of July 2, 1863. While we were on our last visit to this area, we ran into the Civil Trust’s Garry Adelman, who is also a Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide. Garry has previous done posts for us on: the Harvest of Death, Devil’s Den, the Myth of Little Round Top, and Then and Now. Garry gives us a brief overview of the action that took place here on the evening of July 2, 1863, between the Confederates of Hays’ Louisiana Brigade and the Union soldiers of Harris’ Brigade. We think the trees should be removed. Even though that opens up the view of the football field, it also opens up the view of the fields where Hays’ and Avery’s brigades advanced here on the evening of July 2, 1863. This view was taken facing east at approximately 2:30 PM on Friday, August 5, 2016.
