Many schools were out Friday due to the holiday and the battlefield was busy, especially around a highly visited area like the Pennsylvania Memorial. This view was taken facing west at approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017.

Two women with Destination Gettysburg (previously known as the Gettysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau) were staffing a table with a sign saying “Ask us how to get a FREE backpack.” This view was taken facing southeast at approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017.

One of our readers happened upon them Friday and asked us to check out what they were doing. Four times a year Destination Gettysburg receives permission to advertise their organization on the battlefield. Not adjacent to the battlefield. On the battlefield. The two women we spoke with today were promoting the organization’s social media campaign “My Gettysburg.” Take a picture inside the sign and you get a free backpack. This view was taken facing west at approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017.

I mean they want people to visit here, right?”This view was taken facing east at approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017.

The light-green text on this generously described drawstring “backpack” has the organization’s website and the campaign’s hashtag. If somebody wasn’t going to visit Gettysburg before they saw the “backpack,” they certainly will now. This view was “taken facing east at approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017.
